This year we will host a costume trade where you can come and exhange your old costumes and give them new life. A workshop for you who wants a stronger personal expression when dancing. For you who wants to have you face and whole body to be a part of your steps. For you who wants to feel the music in your heart and let your emotions flow freely into your movements. For you who wish to be a better performer.

What do you get:

• Training in how to connect with the music and lyrics of the song you are dancing a choreography to. What does it make you feel? How do you connect with the song? 

• Exercises in how to spread these feelings from the top of your head to the tip of your toes, and in how to express them in your dance.

• Tools to create your own inner story when you dance a choreography - is it a seduction, a break-up, an outlet of anger and frustration, or a sensitive expression of love?

• Exploring different kinds of expressions and characters - how silly, strong, angry, elegant, powerful can you be?

• How to put your own personal spin on a choreo, so it becomes personal and something only you could do.

What to expect of the day:

• Introductions and warm-up

• Exercises: We are going to listen to different pieces of music, see what feelings they bring up and move spontaneously to the music. Later we will work on how you can create your own inner story to a specific piece of music.

• You will learn a short, neutral burlesque choreo. Then we will combine first the feelings-exercise, with the choreo.

• We will do an exercise to explore many different kinds of expression, to see how far you can go, and then we will combine that with the choreo too.  

• Thank you for today - discussing thoughts, feelings, experiences and what you can take with you from the day.

When Sally Boleyn saw her first burlesque show, it was love at first sight. The dance, the comedy, the stories, the filterless sensuality and the fearless performers - she was completely hooked! Since then she has worked her way from door person to stage kitten to performing on burlesque stages all over the country. Do you need to prioritize yourself, increase your body acceptance and give yourself more self-care and love? Then this workshop is for you. We will explore together how you can create more love for yourself in your everyday life. The workshop requires no prior knowledge.

We will review tools for providing self-care and self-love. We will do this through mini-presentations, dialogue, body relaxation and writing exercises, where you turn the focus towards your inner self, followed by practice through dance. We will touch on body ideals, norms, expectations and how this helps to influence our own being in the body and our lives. We will practice being in our body and surroundings through body relaxation with a special focus on accepting the body and sending love to ourselves.

We want to focus on what self-care looks like for you and through reflection tasks, you will have the opportunity to look at how you can use different tools depending on your income.

We work with burlesque as a body-liberating and self-loving activity, where femininity and sensuality are given room to unfold. Through movement, we work with our body image and create calmness in the body. The purpose is not to change the body, but instead to practice sending love to it and accepting it exactly as it is.

The aim of the workshop is that you can slow down and immerse yourself in yourself and be offered various tools to create an awareness of self-care and practice self-love, which can contribute to a more calm, present and sensual everyday life.

This workshop will be both therotical followed by a sensual seduction class with Miss EmmaRald.

The workshop is for everyone – regardless of age, gender, size, ethnicity etc.

Meet the teacher

Helene Dam Fleischer (she/her) based in Copenhagen. On a daily basis, Helene is a sex educator at Sex & Samfund. In addition, she is a folk high school teacher at Ubberup Højskole, where she primarily teach sex, body, norms, self-love and dance. Burlesque has contributed to Helenes own self-loving development and sexual liberation. On top of all this Helene have a bachelor's degree in psychology and philosophy and theory of science.

A masterclass for those who would like to try a form of burlesque that breaks tradition and expectations.

Where classic burlesque tends to draw its empowerment and style from femininity, Queerlesque draws inspiration from a much broader spectrum – masculine, feminine, androgynous and so much more. It is all about playing with expectations and flipping them around, explore different movements, themes and styles within burlesque and find new and unexpected corners of what burlesque can be.

What do you get:

• You get to try classic burlesque moves in new ways and play with different styles and expressions.

• You will dance a burlesque choreography that includes many styles in movement and is not solely centered around feminine dance moves.

• You will get inspiration to explore different ways of moving and dancing and expressing yourself when doing burlesque.

What to expect of the day:

• Introductions and a quick warm-up

• Classic burlesque with a twist: We will do some classic burlesque moves link “bumps ’n grinds” and play with different ways of doing them – feminine, masculine, sensual, ugly, creepy and more.

• You will learn a short simple burlesque choreography, that is not centered around feminine movements or a feminine style of dancing, and then we will play with different ways of doing the choreography, different ways of moving and expression.

• We will show the choreography to each other in groups.

• Thank you for today – discussion of thoughts, feelings and experiences from the day.

 
About Sally Boleyn 

I practically grew up on a theater stage, spending all my free time as a child and as a younger person doing plays, taking classes, and later also teaching and creating pieces. In my twenties I began dancing, and then I discovered burlesque, and I fell in love completely: The combination of dance, theater, comedy, endless creativity, and a complete freedom to show your body and sexuality on your own terms - I was hooked. Since then I have, under the name Sally Boleyn, performed regularly in Copenhagen and Aarhus, and my love for the community and the performing has only grown. I have, since I took my first class at Sweet Burlesque, dreamed of one day teaching myself, so I am very, very excited to have this workshop and pass on some of my experience in performance and storytelling to you.

At the far end of Sweet Burlesque Boulevard lies the Evil Burlesque manor. An estate filled with waltzing ghosts, broken dolls, bloodthirsty vampires and malicious mermaids. The Evil manor is also said to hold a secret treasure. Something magical, mythical, that wields power over life and death itself. Two golden tassels, that when twirled three times, can fulfil one wish. Two girls on a mission to retrieve the magical tassels step into the manor. Will they make it out alive?

At this Friday Groove you will get the chance to play a small part at the Halloween show - The Evil Manor taking place at H15 on 27th October.

At the groove you will be be able to get ready with other members of the Sweet Burlesque family before going out to see The Evil Manor show together.  During the groove, you will also learn a choreo to bust out during the Boolesque curtain call. When the show ends and the song starts, you will be the stars opening the dance floor with the choreo you learned at the groove. But don’t tell anyone, as this will be a surprise for the rest of the guests….

If you are not going to the show, you are more than welcome to join us anyway for a fun but spooky Friday afternoon.
